Shark Alert
June 2, 2010
The spring session will end with the Meter Madness Meet on June 6th. Summer session will begin on June 7th. If
you have not yet registered for the summer session, please contact our
Club Registrar, Helen Bopp at registrar@schenectadyswimclub.org.
The Colgate Classic Meet (July 2-4) is 1 month away! All swimmers registered for the summer session may have been entered in this meet, unless
an opt-out notice was timely received (by the opt-out date of May
30th) at meets@schenectadyswimclub.org. If you did not
swim with the Club during the spring session, please contact Coach
Jerry at that e-mail address during the first few days of the summer
session if you wish to opt-out. Please take note of the Long Course
Meet Schedule posted on our website. The Meet Schedule includes
opt-out dates that are applicable to each scheduled meet.
All parents are reminded of their responsibility to monitor the meet schedule
as posted on our website and comply with any opt-in/opt-out dates that
may be applicable to their swimmer(s). Meets with “opt-out”
dates, such as the upcoming Colgate Classic Meet on July 2-4, means
that all swimmers in a Practice Group scheduled to attend that meet
will be entered and their meet fee account charged, unless an opt-out
notice is received prior to the opt-out date by Coach Jerry by e-mail
at Meets@schenectadyswimclub.org. Once an opt-in/opt-out date has
passed and swimmers have been entered in a meet, meet fee accounts will
be charged as of such date and are not refundable (as meet fees have
been sent to the host team), even if a swimmer later does not swim in
that meet for any reason. The opt-out date for Long Course
Championships (July 23-25) at Colgate is June 27th. All
summer-registered swimmers in Groups 1-SR will be entered in that meet
as of such date, and their meet fee account charged, unless they have
timely opted-out. However, as Long Course Championships are the
culmination of the summer swim season, all swimmers are highly
discouraged from opting out.
We have reserved on-campus housing for our families at Colgate for both July meets.
It is our tradition to stay together as a team. Please make your
reservations through the Club. Housing reservation forms for the
Colgate Classic Meet (July 2-4) have been posted on-line as well as
distributed through the family folders. Please get your housing forms
in early as on-campus housing may become limited-first come, first
served. Housing reservation and team family dinner forms for LC
District Championships at Colgate (July 23-25) will be distributed at
the end of June.
SSC is
pleased to announce that Bryce & Ellie Colby (e-mail address:
bcolby@nycap.rr.com) will be assuming the duties of Team Equipment
Managers with the start of the summer swim session. We would
like to thank our former Team Equipment Manager, Mark Duchesne, for his
many years of dedicated service to the Club. Mark’s daughter,
Courtney, will be graduating from high school this month. If you are
new to our team and need to order equipment, please go to our website
and click the tab, “Equipment Ordering”, on the top of our home page
(please ignore the fall deadline). Bryce & Ellie Colby are
available to answer any equipment-related questions.
SSC
Members who swim for a summer league during Summer session are welcome
and encouraged to compete with our team at AD Long Course District
Championships the weekend of July 23-25, even if they are not
practicing with our team during the summer session. Please notify
Coach Jerry at Meets@schenectadyswimclub.org if you are interested, and
be sure to sign up for housing and dinners.
Please remember to check our website (www.schenectadyswimclub.org) often for updates and changes!
Also, please remember to check your family folders. All families
registered for spring and/ or summer have family folders located at
their home practice site (Skidmore or for the summer only, at Union).
